When speaking before various audiences
about the job market and career prospects in China today, I share two
significant sides of the story, which can result in dramatically differing
outlooks, depending on who you are. On the one hand, there has never
been a better time to capture opportunities for higher-level, management
roles within leading global companies in China. Simply, it's a great
hiring market out there right now. At the same time, the quickly
maturing capabilities and skill sets in the professional talent market are
also creating an increasingly competitive hiring and promotion situation
for everyone here, whether you are a homegrown mainlander, mainland-born
returnee, regional Chinese, overseas Chinese, or non-Chinese. So at
the same time, getting into those positions that are most attractive to you
is much tougher than before too.

management levels, the overall job market picture and hiring trend right
